I don't know whether the very real possibility of Impeachment slowed Nixon down. The difference between then and now was that then, a delegation of senators from his own party, led by the former presidential nominee whose name was synonymous with Conservatism, invited themselves to the White House and told him, in effect, "Dick, you've had a good run, but now it's time to go. And if you don't resign, we will vote for conviction and removal from office on the Bill of Impeachment. Now, of course, the senators from Trump's party are, every one of them, pusillanimous, unprincipled, self-serving careerists who place their own continued tenure in office far ahead of our nation and its founding principles and Constitution and its indispensable place among the nations.

Wow, dire stuff. Thank you for that detailed warning and call to action. There's so much in there that I'm saving it for possible future reference.
