I had no idea that my partner and I, hidden in the hills, tending our deep intellectual woundings inflicted by the spiritual cruelties of corporate funded mass education establishments, in our bunker made of books, were not as alone as I had imagined. Thank you, Matthew Strother and All fellow travellers 🐈⬛
I have 60 feet of bookshelves 9 feet high, filled. I have stacks of read-in-process books, and it’s a great pleasure of life. As I learn it’s a physically pleasurable sensation. Everyone in my family is the same way. I have a feeling that passivity from endless parental supervision is an issue too. That’s a major change from how I and those in my family were raised
Splendid piece. Splendid resource. Thank you. As a book editor currently working on projects about Greek history, Cyrus the Great, and Thomas Jefferson, I am driven to bring an appreciation of deeper learning to all that I can ... even if it is one book at a time. So glad to know about other (more ambitious) like minded souls! Thank you!

There are so many more of us than any of us imagine.
Why do I have the feeling school is way too easy?
That is indeed another part of the problem.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute--and also for exemplifying the teacher's role in the examined life.
