You are simply describing, in immaculate prose, the superficial transactionalism at the centre of all postwar Western democracies. There is a sharp and unforgiving division between those whose careers depend upon choosing to reflect upon the perpetually entertaining masked revelries of exploitative capitalism and those who have been driven into existential despair and viseceral violence by its inhumane cruelties.

Such individuals play the power abuse game by whatever socio-political rules will best deliver for them at any given time. I have never been able to see such individuals as having any vision or playing the Long Game. They simply momentarily harness the longterm suffering of the millions who have no choice but to fight or die, to rise to power upon their broken backs. The millions who are never gifted a true voice because if they were ever to be heard it would first necessitate dissolving the transactionalism at the heart of our present global progressivist capitalisms worldview. πββ¬
