By indirectly putting Macron at the same level as real authoritarians (and even mixing in references to Orwell to make up your point), do you understand that you are insinuating in people's mind that Macron and Le Pen do represent the same level of threat? Your argumentation is quite poor and cliché and is extremely worrying at a time a lot of left learning people in France are already saying that they will prefer not to vote for Macron in a second round against Le Pen. Just like 5 years ago a lot of people from the left ended up convinced that Clinton was no better than Trump. For the consequences we all lived painfully through.
Sounds like the author is quite understanding/grateful for the Gilets Jaunes folks, the link to Macron there was weak. maybe they would have settled down if La Pen was in charge as well. It took what, about a year, for this place to start running The Nation-esq pieces?
