Good idea: cameras in the courtroom. Let us (we, the people) see the proceedings.

No. Just, no.

If there are cameras in the courtroom, Trump will just play to the cameras, and the news of the day will be all his hijinx, all the titillation he inspires, and quotable quotes for his apologists, not the trial, or the evidence, or the arguments. "Needed transparency"? Nonsense: we get that from news reports and publication of the transcripts. Nothing with the exception of classified documents will be secret. What cameras provide is a show, for Trump to perform, and for voyeurs to ogle. That's not transparency, it's cheap thrills playing to the basest instincts of the basest people in the country.

Have we learned nothing about how this man operates since he came down that escalator in 2015?

If Trump shows the sort of contempt of court that would get Joe Average thrown in jail (given his behavior in the last trial, it seems a pretty safe bet), I hope the judge has the balls to jail him.

How about we just reserve judgment until we see what we see?

I think they should release the transcripts from Hur's interview with Biden.

Comparing a televised debate to a televised courtroom trial is not a valid comparison. A televised debate can be consumed by the audience in one sitting whereas a trial can go on for days, weeks or months. Most would be viewers will rely on their favorite media outlets to present excerpts from the trial because most viewers simply do not have the time or patience to sit and watch.

More importantly, however, and not to belabor the obvious, debates and trials have different purposes. The purpose of a debate between candidates is to influence the voting public. The purpose of trial is to render justice. Although both are imperfect vehicles to achieve their ends, let's not confuse the two.

So, create a media circus with the Democrat lawfare abuse of political power. Got it.
