While I supect Abdelkareem and I won't agree about some things (Haviv Rettig Gur is probably the person who has most shaped my perspective about Gaza), I have incredible respect for everything he is doing. Truly heroic.
I hope that the fighting will end soon, that the remaining hostages will be freed, and Hamas will surrender or flee so that Gazans can have a chance at a decent life.
My grandfather, who was a Jew and converted to Islam, came from Palestine, and while most of my family is Jewish, I am absolutely appalled by the behavior of Israel, under Netanyahu, and their total destruction of Gaza, their failure to provide aid, and their continuing attacks on Palestinians. Yes, the Palestinians committed a terrible crime on October 7th, but the reaction is out of proportion, and to me, unthinkable....It could have been stopped before it happened but Netanyahu wanted it to happen in order to stay in power. Netanyahu and Trump have no regard for human life and human suffering ..... He supported Hamas against the Palestinian authority and made the life of Palestinians unbearable.
I visited Israel 3 times -- and each time was appalled by the "apartheid" that existed there. I know that many Israelis are decent and object to Israel's current policies, but many also support the right wing government that is destroying any good will the Israelis had accrued... It is heartbreaking to see the photos of destroyed cities and starving children. .
What can I say? You are brave beyond belief-- and I will do what I can to support you and your colleagues. My husband was a Journalist and when I learned, today , of the deliberate murder of 6 Journalists, my heart broke yet again.
What can I say? You -- the decent, brave people who are working in this death trap -- deserve all of our thanks and support.....
Please stay safe and know that you inspire us . Wish I could be of more help.
War is hell. Always has been always will be. Maybe Palestinians should reject supporting terrorists that start wars so they don't have to go through this again. Just a thought.
The author is a very honorable man doing an incredibly difficult job under conditions of war. In another life, I would quite happily welcome him to my neighborhood.
I have deep empathy for you, your patients, and your family. But I struggle to extend that sympathy to the people of Gaza as a whole. The path forward begins with a clear moral reckoning: apologize to the victims in Israel for the unprovoked atrocities of October 7th, unequivocally condemn Hamas, and release all remaining hostages.
If that were done, the world would respond—with peace, support, and the resources needed for Gazans to rebuild their society free from Hamas and its destructive, evil objectives. Until then, the moral burden remains unaddressed.
My heart goes out to this man and these people. I have supported Israel all my life, Hamas started this and I believe are the most responsible, but what Israel is doing now is simply beyond the pale, truly cruel and unacceptable by any standard of basic decency.
Respect for running this.
