Dear Persuasion Community Member,

Please join us in celebrating Persuasion’s third anniversary!

It has now been over three years since Persuasion was founded as, in Yascha’s words, “a new community of thinkers, activists, and citizens that is committed to defending and reinvigorating the values of a free and fair society.”

And that community exists, thanks to you. This year, we’re excited to repeat the tradition of the Persuasion Festival for members—not with a single day of events, as in prior years, but with four different programs spread over the coming month.

We’ll have a variety of programming, ranging from a live report from Kyiv on daily life in Ukraine to a talk with George Orwell’s most distinguished biographer on the writer’s life and thought, and more.

The full lineup is below, along with a link to RSVP—we hope you’ll join for all or part!

With thanks for being part of our community,

— The Persuasion Team

P.S. If you’re in DC, New York, or London, don’t forget about our in-person happy hours in October! More details are available here.

Persuasion Festival Lineup 2023

Schedule of Events (all times Eastern Daylight Time):

Sunday, October 8th at 4pm: The Identity Trap: A Book Talk with Yascha Mounk

In conversation with Persuasion senior editor Luke Hallam, Persuasion founder and editor-in-chief Yascha Mounk discusses his new book, The Identity Trap: A Story of Ideas and Power in Our Time.

Wednesday, October 18th at 7:30pm: Are The Kids Alright? Discourse on Campus

The founder of an on-campus chapter of Persuasion, Matt Major, and Professor Jake Mackey discuss their work to promote civic discourse on campus—and whether the future of liberal values on campus may be brighter than it sometimes seems.

Monday, October 30th at 12pm: Report from Kyiv

In a live report from Kyiv, Persuasion contributor Kateryna Kibarova, author of a harrowing series of dispatches since the beginning of the Russian invasion, describes the realities of daily life as winter nears.

Sunday, November 12th at 5pm: The Life and Thought of George Orwell

In conversation with Persuasion editor-in-chief Yascha Mounk, Orwell biographer and Pulitzer Prize finalist Michael Shelden discusses Orwell's life and enduring lessons.
