A Persuasion Milestone!
Message from Yascha.
Hi, it’s Yascha!
Thank you so much for being one of our loyal readers.
I’m writing to share some exciting news: earlier this week, our community at Persuasion crossed 45,000 subscribers!
When I founded Persuasion in the summer of 2020, I really wasn’t sure whether the idea would take hold. When a few months later we crossed 20,000 members, it became clear that I wasn’t alone in thinking something was wrong with the national discourse—but I wondered whether the momentum would last.
Since then, Persuasion has continued to grow beyond my most optimistic expectations. We’ve more than doubled the size of our community again in the following years, showing that this isn’t a passing moment—there are many of us willing to fight for the values of philosophical liberalism, and we’re in it for the long haul.
As we celebrate this milestone, I want to thank you for making our success possible. And I also wanted to ask if you’d consider becoming a paid member of Persuasion.
While the community continues to grow, less than 5% of our total subscribers currently support us as paid members. Those paying members are the reason we’re able to hire staff, pay our writers, and provide you with high-quality content—all while remaining a nonprofit and keeping our work available to everyone.
Being a member has its benefits: access to exclusive online and in-person events (including happy hours with Persuasion staff and me in London and D.C. this month), our weekly virtual happy hour, and our upcoming virtual events series, the Persuasion Festival. But fundamentally, support for Persuasion is about values, not value propositions.
Please don’t feel bad if you are unable to support us at this time; we are so grateful that you take the time to read and engage with our content. But if you have the financial means to become a member today, I’d be extremely grateful for your support.
Thank you,
Yascha
