Hadn't thought of it that way, but yeah, good point.

Here's another thought. There's been a lot of talk lately about anomie among working class men. If they want to feel like tough guys, exercise strength and physicality, building infrastructure would let them do it in a way that's literally constructive.

Infrastructure for what? Tourism or to assist with economic vitality that requires industry? The former is stupid. The latter is needed, but which is the cart and which is the horse?

I’m not sure if this analysis and its recommendations is the result of first-hand experience working with home owner associations or local city, county or state governments. My own experience suggests that all government is local and almost all of it is extremely corrupt and very rigged against citizen input. That said, trying to change this is a most worthy goal. Would have likely to have seen more about these problems in the article. Perhaps a separate piece just on this problem is in order?
