There can be a cost to "reshoring". If an item or service can be sourced for $20 on the global market and $22 when produced domestically, then there should be justification for the additional cost (and government intervention) beyond providing good-paying domestic jobs. For example, reshoring pharmaceutical manufacture would not only provide good-paying jobs but would also ensure quality through regulatory compliance and eliminate some supply chain problems.

Lund states that the parties are "dominated by their very upscale, college-educated primary electorates". Although this is true of the Democrats at the state and national levels, is it still true of the Republicans? Alternatively, is it true of the Republicans because segments of the party leadership have been able to channel the grievances of a less-educated and downscale base?

I was impressed by many of Mr. Lind's observations, not nearly so much by either his diagnoses or his proposed solutions. Yascha did his usual good job of respectfully keeping his guest moving forward and clarifying his thoughts, while going down as few rabbit holes as possible. This is what I like best about Persuasion interviews -- thank you!
