Yascha Mounk and Russ Muirhead discuss what it is like for a political theorist to turn into a legislator and how to speak to voters who don’t already agree with you.
For the majority of my career, I worked in the compliance end of highly regulated industries. Unfortunately, the regulatory agencies were often demonized as the enemy. However, to be successful in regulatory compliance, I found that you should know the regulations better than the regulators, which, of course, meant that you understood what motivated the regulators. Knowing leads to understanding and that is a good place to be in during negotiations.
Great episode. Wrong title. Should have been more about theory and/vs practice. Fantastic discussion of how we could be doing this better.
