Dear Sir. I must humbly suggest your entire column as "evasion". Let us revisit the timeline shall we? Kirk is shot on Thu, Sept 11. On Friday, Sept 12, WSJ reports shell casings found at the site. The inscriptions were firmly pointing to leftist antifa like violence. There was later identified "furry" inscription as well. Occam's Razor was already pointing us to the truth, but the WSJ report took you, IMO around 75% there. Saturday, Sept 13, Fox News, Washington Examiner and NY Post reported on trans love interest/roommate. Now we're 98% there By Sun Sept 14, morning national talk shows were mentioning this in interviews with Utah gov while questioning why this is "relevant" LOLOLOLOLOL The Utah gov already was saying the shooter was radicalized. So, I am very sorry, by Monday Sept 15, Kimmel knew or someone had to know "editors"? that he was actively LYING.. blatantly LYING - at that stage in the time line. Now apart from the obvious initial cognitive dissonance as to why as MAGA person would assassinate a MAGA friendly pundit.. the EVIDENCE WAS IN - the highest amount of grace I can give Kimmel is that he is so cocooned inside his own social media scroll, where the algorithms re-enforce his ideological blinkerdom is that he just persisted in stating publicly what other idiots on the left were saying even after all this evidence/data has come out. If I were head of the FCC I would had made a private call to ABC execs expressing my "deep concern in my public role as head of FCC about obvious prevarication during a fragile time of national tragedy" etc.. and then let them handle it (as I suspect they would have.. I can imagine how GM's on national affiliates in say Cincinnati or Nashville) felt about this.. but this administration is full of blithering idiots and Trump salad tossers. I have nothing but contempt for them - but this doesn't excuse Kimmel - and how his lie entered and contributed to the national discourse? He had every right to be internally suspended by ABC

I'm not sure that was the point of the article. ABC have every right to suspend one of their employees if they blatantly lie on their show (though I'm still willing to consider that he may have simply being really dumb)., but sure the danger is in the threat by the regulator to ABC to take action or else. This is fitting a pattern of general intimidation of views that the current administration doesn't like.

fair enough- But this sentence? that's what I was really taking aim at! "When Kimmel delivered this monologue, there was no serious reason to believe that Robinson, though from a Republican family, was motivated by right-wing beliefs.

“Trump supporters reacted to Kimmel’s words with predictable fury. “Jimmy Kimmel LIED to his audience by claiming Charlie Kirk’s assassin is MAGA,” tweeted former West Virginian politician and self-declared “former Jan 6th political prisoner””

I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. From the beginning Trump and his minions were painting this guy as a radical left-wing crazy indoctrinated into trans ideology on-line. And this was before they even had a suspect in custody. Oh wait, it came out after they the wrong guy in custody, but they were sure he was radical left indoctrinated into trans ideology.

Additionally. Kimmel didn’t say the person was “right-wing,” and if you actually listen to his statement you’ll see that he was saying that from the beginning they were trying to make it seem like he couldn’t be right-wing” and also stated that they are exploiting Kirk’s death to gain points.

Or more aptly in my opinion, to silence their critics and create panic and fear through threats, intimidation and firings: Mission Accomplished!

It's called Consequence Culture. Unlike the previous canceled Cancel Culture, it is right and righteous, and for Kimmel, long, long overdue.

No, it's not. It's called breaking the First Amendment. The courts have ruled on this many, many times. I suggest you take a look at the Constitution.

The assassination of Kirk was exactly the result of a political side that has attempted to eliminate American God-given rights of free speech that are enshrined in the Constitution.

Next up you are going to claim that shooting a bullet at someone that has different views is protected by the 1st Amendment. Hey, he wrote messages on the bullets, so he was just delivering words!

Thanks for proving my point about the far-right. You have no ethics or morality. Your movement is a malignant cancer that spreads violence and hate, in which every accusation is a confession; of your own twisted, distorted and corrupt world view!

You call yourself Christians, but if Jesus were walking the earth, preaching the gospels, and staring you in the face; you wouldn’t know Jesus, you’d probably have him crucified again, as a left-wing radical Jew! SAD!!!!!😢

I hated this stuff coming from the illiberal left (woke). I don't like it any better from the illiberal right. It disrespects the constitution. Government is not permitted to punish people for wrong opinions, and not even for lying (excepting fraud, perjury, imminent threats, and harassment).

As far as I can tell, liberals' immediate reaction to Kirk's murder was shock and sadness. It wasn't until Trump and company started to memorialize him like he was some national hero that we started to go "Wait a minute, let's look at what the guy actually stood for." If you find that insensitive, even offensive, you know who had no problem being insensitive and offensive? Charlie Kirk.

My understanding is revenue from late night television is down 50% from 15 years ago. Why is that? Many competitive reasons but the major one, in my opinion, is folks like me stopped watching partisan attacks on the political movements the hosts, and owners, didn't like. That includes me. I love to see comedians make fun of politicians in a non-partisan way. Politicians need to be the butt of humor to deflate their egos and hopefully convince them to self limit their time in power since it will take a constitutional amendment to put in term limits. There are two left, one should be sidelined and Fallon should continue to be a bi-partisan critical comic as his predecessors were. I don't watch those shows for political analysis or opinion, I watch them to be entertained. They deserve to be cancelled. Michael Jordan said it best, "Republicans come to my games and buy my shoes too!?

I have caught him recently and like his skewering of both sides, as well as trashing the "culture wars" of the last 15 years. He is still a much left of center guy so I guess I have to put up that sometimes. He has changed from the past for sure.

We are at war.

First - the Cold War of openly criticizing each other. With contempt and adjectives like “evil” and “demonic”.

Next - the Warm War of attacking the speech of those who oppose us. “We must not allow this evil to spread”. We are in the final stage of this phase.

Finally - the Hot War of violence against those who muzzle and coerce our freedoms and dignity.

Phase 2 has seen the pendulum swing from side to side. Once the Left believes they no longer have the ability to dissent - they will conclude violence is their last resort. As Tyler Robinson did. The Right will happily accommodate this. In fact, they can barely contain their glee for it. They are better armed, better trained, and have far more testosterone on their side. They know they have an immense advantage in Stage 3. And so do Progressives. They realize, now, they should have stopped this in the talking phase.

Thus, the bitter fruit of using coercion over persuasion. It will inevitably progress in these stages. Given our momentum and leadership in power, how can any of us think we can escape this?

Prepare. That’s all I can recommend.

If there is a phase 2, it is to clear out the enemy in our midst that has been working to foment chaos and destruction from within. And really, fuck everyone that seems to want to ignore and forget what they did to all of us during the pandemic. We saw that left orgasm of authoritarian power grab. It was clear. That was the enemy. Now we are finally able to apply some long overdue consequences and save the republic and likely the world from these cretins.

I don’t often praise Trump but I think operation warp speed was a success and he supported it and also scientists like Fauci . I’m disappointed that the science community didn’t give the lab leak theory a fair evaluation and of course the mask mandates and isolation went too far. I hope that the democrats learned a lesson from the pandemic 😷

The rest of this piece is dead on IMO, but this isn't quite honest:

"Hence the attacks on major universities, threatening to withdraw federal funding unless they comply with onerous obligations designed to strengthen viewpoints favored by the administration."

Having normalized cancel culture the Left should not be surprised that they're now on the receiving end of it. Yes, ABC are craven cowards and yes, Trump doesn't give a damn about FOS, nevertheless what Kimmel said was a gross slander and he deserved to be fired for it. Can you imagine if some right wing talking head opined that Derek Chauvin was really an antifa mole and only killed Floyd to deliberately whip up anarchy?
