Western democracy screwed up failing to raise the age of voting rights commensurate with the shift in early childhood development when the kids become functioning adults.

It used to be much earlier. The kids left the nest, would fight wars and would become their own provider. Now they are coddled, provided for and given copious safe spaces until well into their 20s. And their political interest are a direct reflection of that worldview that someone else should continue to take care of their needs.

Interesting analysis. However the introduction is blatantly wrong. While it is true that Macron's life is getting more complicated following this election, his coalition Ensemble remains by far the biggest force of the country. Also, the shift from this election is not towards the left but towards the right, with the surprisingly strong performance from the far right and the fact that to govern, Ensemble will probably have to make make deals with Les Républicains, who are from the right.

France is not "neo-liberal". It is still one of the most centralised, bureaucratic, big public sector nations in Europe. Despite all changes and reforms made by Macron.
