Come on, Francis, we all know that DJT, using his studied intellect, military/history/strategy knowledge, insights into human nature, superior intuition and empathy for the downtrodden is playing 5 dimensional chess with his fellow strongmen around the globe. What could wrong?

We need to remind ourselves every once in a while how far down the dark, dank well of Donald Trump's mind we are. When he first ran for president, everything about his life warned of undisciplined behavior and ignorance cloaked in phony self-confidence ("I trust my gut"). It warned of a stunted character that never dared emerge from the nursery. But to get those warnings, you had to be paying attention to all the available evidence. Too many people paid attention only to The Apprentice.

Francis,

Your thoughts on the necessity of the USA following the rules of international law, the UN Charter, and the laws of war, the laws of trade? False necessity?

This article is basically yet another Orange Man Bad screed - although I fully agree that this Iran escapade is a fiasco. John Meirsheimber, Jeffrey Sachs, Glenn Greenwald, Trita Parsi and others do a much better job of critiquing this disastrous Iran attack. Fukayama's personal and somewhat hysterical tone is not helpful or useful. Fukuyama, why can't you frame it in policy terms ? And let's be honest, the Ukraine war is equally daft and also immoral - men are dying. America's constant unquestioning support for Israel, evident under democrat as well as republican administrations is another big issue that needs to be analyzed intelligently. This article is disappointing, worthy of the NY TImes, another Orange Man Bad story. Fukuyama needs to take a break from writing about DJT.
