There is zero doubt in my mind that secret deals have already been struck within the Venezuelan regime (within military I am near certain) and perhaps even within other channels of existing political power structure. Survival is at the foundation of all human impulses, especially if it can be "greased" with millions of dollars and a Costa Rican beach house. Maduro had an offer for same in Turkey. He made the wrong choice. Perhaps Ms. Rodriguez has digested that lesson.

A pliable if cynical self-preserving regime that is in thrall to the US will do much more of interest to us. It will downgrade or cut off Cuba Iran Russian and China. because American interventions have never in history been about resource extraction? And past interventions in Latin America have all been so successful in establishing prosperous states!
Panama and Grenada are doing pretty well. DR is prosperous despite Eisenhower. Chile is more prosperous. We ultimately beat the Russians which was what a lot of this was about. None of those countries had ANY oil, by the way. And I have no issue with our taking resource values into account. We didn’t get Kuwait’s oil after Desert Storm but then neither did Saddam. Kuwait should’ve paid us for our security services, however
