"If elected Democrats continue to be seen to make life worse for their constituents—and if they continue to respond to that concern with aloof condescension and strict adherence to ideological purity—they will not only continue to lose progressives, but will also give up any chance at winning over moderates and independents."
Amen. After being considered a very left classical liberal for more than 35 years, I am now politically homeless. My vote is up for grabs to anyone who seeks compromise, sees people as individuals (not identity groups), and works to make this country better.
As things stand, I plan to abstain on principle in national elections. If enough of us do it, one of the parties will take notice. Or not. What's needed is a centrist third party.
Dead accurate, and horribly unfortunate. Edmund Burke is smiling somewhere. For changes to take hold and gain permanence, they must be incremental and over time. It's a simple, but powerful political proposition that gets lost in today's intellectual world.
It seems Boudin is not alone in his zeal for “equity” in criminal justice. This is the trend in many areas of the country. It doesn’t appear to be working.
The proletariat has figured out that “wokeness” doesn’t put food on your table, gas in your car, or protect you from crime or violence. The elites have plenty of money and protection, however. The Dems are alienating the very people they claim to be concerned about.
Perfectly said. The irony is that many of those who embrace the 'woke' ideas most fervently, actually push many middle-of-the-road voters to the right. With terrible consequences. See 2016.

Unless you're a Republican strategist, in which case it's working out just fine.

It's not about arrogance or purity, it's about a failed ideology. The ideas themselves are bad.
