For every school/school board banning books. there are probably 20 teachers preaching racial identify politics as a "fact". The pandemic had the unintended side effect of allowing parents to see what was being "taught" in schools. like it or not, CRT is the dominant religion of the left and that most assuredly includes most K-12 teachers.
I think there's a difference between "banning books" altogether and determining age-appropriateness. CRT may be OK in a university classroom, but is NOT appropriate for young children. On the other hand, I think it's entirely reasonable to present other viewpoints against CRT such as those written by John McWhorter, who is Black.
Discussions of history regarding slavery, Jim Crow and Civil Rights as part of our US history is not at question in my mind. Encouragement of acceptance and tolerance of others regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or gender is appropriate, however It is not in the schools' purview to encourage alternative lifestyles or gender concerns, that is for the parents to deal with.
Typically, kids are taught that slavery explains everything. If not just slavery, then slavery/Red-lining/Jim Crow/the GI Bill/etc. explains everything. These are dogmas on the left, and any push-back is an anathema. Of course literal CRT is graduate school material. However, a kid’s version is taught as ‘fact’ in most schools. Of course, McWhorter/the Civil Rights act/the Great Society/etc. are never mentioned. For better or worse, ‘systemic racism’ is the religion of the left and is preached with all of the fervor of Protestantism in Salem in the 17th century.
The key is BOTH SIDES setting aside their partisan cudgels, which means the Left must abandon their censoriousness and book banning as well.

Yep. Just waiting for the witch burnings.
Asking extremists to play nice is no answer. Refuting them publicly and continually on the actual content of their toxic narratives is the answer.
